Weight Watchers has a new end of year ad that puts the focus on losing weight on a woman’s butt.

Here’s the Weight Watchers “My Butt” script:

“This is my butt. My butt and I came into this world together. We were a great team. Then, we grew up and things weren’t as easy. I got my butt a job, a gym membership, and a boyfriend. But when my life went in one direction, my butt would go in another. We could get the magic back for a little while, but after 12 years, 7 diets and six sizes, I finally realized my relationship with my butt had nothing to do with my butt and everything to do with my brain.”

According to USA Today, they also have plans for a possible, future male version of this ad about a guy and his gut.

We at Excy don’t love the emphasis on one body part, but our hats are off to Weight Watchers for highlighting how hard weight management and weight loss can be, especially as we get older.

We do have one suggestion! At the end, instead of saying “It has everything to do with my brain,” we would have loved to hear…“It has everything to do with my heart.”

As we highlighted in our Excy post “Beauty Work and Celebrity Bodies: Illusion vs. Truth,” heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women. To improve cardiovascular health, the American Heart Association suggest at least 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise or 75 minutes per week of vigorous exercise (or a combination of moderate and vigorous activity). Thirty minutes a day, five times a week is an easy goal to remember. You will also experience benefits even if you divide your time into two or three segments of 10 to 15 minutes per day. The American Heart Association also has some great guidelines for changing the balance of calories in to calories out.

Chart shows the approximate calories spent per hour by a 100-, 150- and 200- pound person doing a particular activity.

So, as Weight Watchers highlights a woman’s butt or a man’s gut, Excy would also love to hear more from Weight Watchers about the importance of both food and exercise. For some, the right answer towards better health is to fix food first. For others, exercise is the right place to start. Lets talk about both in 2015.
