We are in the process of wrapping up six amazing High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT or HIT) workouts for the launch of the Excy portable exercise bike. So it was great waking up to an article in the New York Times highlighting recent research and the amazing benefits of HIIT.
The article, “Why Your Workout Should Be High-Intensity,” calls out some key benefits of HIIT, including:
- High-intensity exercise may be even better than regular aerobic activities for many patients with conditions like heart disease, diabetes, stroke, pulmonary disease, arthritis and Parkinson’s disease.
- Studies strongly suggest that a more demanding but more efficient and often more enjoyable form of exercise known as high-intensity interval training is not only safe for most patients but more effective at preventing or reversing the deficits associated with many chronic ailments.
There’s a lot of recent research highlighting the benefits of HIIT, including the report the New York Times references titled “Where Does HIT Fit? An Examination of the Affective Response to High-Intensity Intervals in Comparison to Continuous Moderate- and Continuous Vigorous-Intensity Exercise in the Exercise Intensity-Affect Continuum.” The research defines HIT (or HIIT) as “involving relatively brief bursts of vigorous exercise separated by periods of recovery.” It also highlights “accumulating evidence that indicates that HIIT induces similar health-enhancing adaptations when compared to continuous exercise, despite a substantially lower time commitment.”
In our first six Excy HIIT workouts we are preparing for launch, we will not only rock your cardio, but also integrate strength training within your HIIT workout for your upper body, lower body and your core.
